Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

December 14, 2014 DGStyleBlog 0 Comments

I know this isn't the typical beauty blog post you've all been looking forward to but with Thanksgiving behind us and Christmas just around the corner, I thought I would do a post that has saved me multiple times during family reunions. Not only is this a wonderful way to use bananas that are getting ready to not be of any use anymore, but it also is a versatile dessert that can be altered to personal preference of sweetness. Whether it's for a family reunion or a potluck with friends,  hopefully you will find this as delicious and easy I did and recreate it:)

INGREDIENTS
  • 1 1/2 Cups Flour
  • 1 Teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1 Teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Salt
  • 3/4 Cups Semisweet Chocolate Chips
  • 3/4 Cups Walnuts, Toasted, Chopped (Optional)
  • 3/4 Cups Pecans, Toasted, Chopped (Optional)
  • 1/2 Cup Butter (1 Stick)
  • 1 Cup Sugar
  • 2 Large Eggs
  • 1 Cup Mashed Ripe Bananas (About 3 Large Bananas)
  • 2 Tablespoons Fresh Lemon Juice
  • 1 1/2 Teaspoons Vanilla Extract
PROCEDURE

  1. Preheat oven to 350. Butter and flour 9x5x12 1/2 inch metal meat loaf pan. Whisk first four ingredients in medium bowl to blend.
  2. Combine chocolate chips, pecans and walnuts in small bowl and add 1 tablespoon flour mixture and toss to coat.
  3. Beat butter in large bowl until fluffy. Gradually add sugar, beating until well blended. Beat in eggs 1 at a time. Beat in mashed bananas, lemon juice and vanilla extract. Beat in flour mixture.
  4. Spoon 1/3 of batter into prepared pan. Sprinkle with half of nut mixture. Spoon 1/3 of batter over. Sprinkle with remaining nut mixture. Cover with remaining batter. Run knife through batter in zigzag pattern.
  5. Bake bread until tester inserted into center comes out clean, about 1 hour and 5 minutes. Turn out onto rack until cool.
Hope you guys enjoyed this quick and easy dessert and comment if you would like to see more. I plan on making this into a series on Saturday called "Sushmi's Sweet Treats" and tell me what you guys think. Also, make sure to post pictures of recreations and tag us so we can see yours! As always, lots of love and stay beautiful;)

Love, Sushmi xoxo

Rockin' Rogue Red

November 19, 2014 DGStyleBlog 0 Comments

Hello Beauties!

With Thanksgiving about a week away, I notice many of my girlfriends scampering around for a chic Holiday look for when spending time with their families. Although Fall Fashion week is well behind us, fall makeup is always trendy, mostly for the ease of it. One classic look I absolutely adore but never dared to try, is a bold red lip with a clean winged liner.
I have recently mastered the art of winged liner, as you may have probably noticed from my previous blogpost on achieving perfect winged liner, however I was still skeptical about the whole bold lip trend. Nevertheless, I sucked it up, and decided "What the heck? It can't be worse than my illuminated pimple stunt." But that's another story for another day.
So, anyways, thus began my exodus for the "perfect" universal red lipstick. I very quickly realized, there is no such thing as a universal red lipstick that's going to suit everyone. Everyone is different, and by default, so is their "perfect" red lipstick. But with that being said, I firmly believe there is a perfect shade of red lipstick for everyone. If you haven't found one yet or you are too scared â€” just like I was â€” then you simply haven't tried hard enough.
So in an attempt to make your hunt easier, I have comprised a list of my top ten favorite red lipsticks. Enjoy:)

Chanel Rouge Allure "Pirate" $35
This iconic lipstick is a ladylike blue-based red with an intense color payoff and a satin finish
Clinique Chubby Stick "Two Ton Tomato" $17
Packed with butters, oils and antioxidants to keep lips soft, full and protected against the elements this is a lighter red, perfect for glossy daytime chic.
Giorgio Armani Lip Maestro "The Red" $33
In my opinion it's kind of amazing.

MAC Matte Lipstick "Lady Danger" $16
This bright orange red is a contentious choice since many will argue that Russian Red or Ruby Woo (both blue based reds) are the more famous MAC shades. However, if you are a person who loves bold warm reds, this is the color for you.
NARS Hardwired Lipstick "Deadly Catch" $26
Just released as part of their holiday collection, this limited edition, cool toned crimson has a high sheen finish.
Rouge Dior "Ara Red" $35
This elegant statement red feels both classic and modern. The bright color has warm undertones and a luxe satiny finish.
Tarte Cosmetics Glamazon Pure Performance 12-Hour Lipstick "Fierce" $24
Sometimes red lipstick can be drying, but this one is so rich with mango, avocado, and Shea butter that your pout will never be parched.
YSL Rouge "Pur Couture" $35
A hot new contender for my attention is the rich, glossy red from YSL. How I have survived without this lipstick all this time I just don't know. It's a YES please for me.
Benefit Hydra Smooth Lip Color "Dare Me" $19
A fun flattering lipstick enriched with Shea, mango butter, and vitamin E, this super moisturizing lipstick will absolutely double up as a winter lip savior.

Bobbi Brown Creamy Matte Lip Color "Red Carpet" $26
This new rich bright red goes on creamy but dries matte, and the best part is that it won't budge for eight hours.

If you have any red lipsticks you'd like to share, please comment them down below so I can check them out. Make sure to subscribe via email on the top right side for more blogposts every week. How to Apply Eyeliner

November 05, 2014 DGStyleBlog 0 Comments

As a makeup enthusiast, the first thing I notice when I see someone is their eyebrows. And naturally, the next thing would be their eyes and eye makeup. However, lots of times, many people don't know how to do their eyeliner, winged or not. So here's a step by step guide on how you can achieve a sleek and effortless look whether it's for school, work or a night out.

1) Using a spatula, take a chunk of your gel eyeliner* and brush it onto the back of your hand.

2) Brush a generous, but not too heavy, amount onto your liner brush. (My personal fav is the MAC 266 Angle Brush)
3) Carefully make little dots right where your eyelashes are - this will act as a guide!
4) Use a small angle brush for a subtle look or use a thicker angle brush for a bold look.
5) Just connect the dots!
*If you are using liquid/pencil/pen eyeliner, just start from step 3

Recommended products for this tutorial:
MAC Fluidline Gel Liner in Blacktrack $16.00
MAC 266 Small Angle Brush $20.00
AVON Glimmerstick Crayon Liner $3.48
Prestige Kohl Pencil Liner $4.60
NYX Cosmetics Collection Noir $6.00
